Stranded

 Floe I. The coldest planet in the Federation. The Enterprise had been assigned to map and explore this planet to update the Starfleet charts. It was a fairly straightforward mission, if a bit dull. Scans had shown that there was no civilization to be found, though there were some native animals that were few and far between.

Away teams had been selected, each packed with enough gear and provisions to make sure they wouldn't freeze to death, and had been beamed down to pre-appointed areas of the planet. The captain didn't normally send multiple away teams at once, preferring to lead each and every one himself, but this time, they had a whole planet to cover, and this was the most efficient way to get things done.

Then the blizzard hit. Communication with the ship had been cut off, which meant they also couldn't communicate with any of the other away teams. This was not good.

Ah, Bones grumbling. Everything's right in Jim's world so long as he hears that. At the very least, it meant Bones wasn't frozen enough to keep his mouth shut, and that's enough to keep the captain grinning. "You're not gonna die, Bones. Besides, isn't there a trick to preserving body heat?"

And then the eyebrow waggle.

Kirk has a long way before Bones's is completely silent, and even then, he'll be all glares that speak in volumes of their own. So enjoy this while you can, captain. Just wait until they're back on the Enterprise and he has needles to stick Jim with...that ought to get keep him going.

"Unfortunately, yes. Don't get too excited about it, I may just say no and risk both of us freezing." Just then, he pulls out the space blankets and quickly unfolds them.

Hey, hope springs eternal in Jim. While Bones gets the blankets out, Jim's gathering up whatever loose rocks he can easily find to line the entrance to their little cave and zap them with his phaser. Voila, instant space heaters. "You're a terrible liar, you know that?"

[drgruff]

Okay. He's ingenious. An ingenious bastard, that is. He barely keeps himself from inhaling deeply to calm himself like he needs to, not wanting to get cold in caught in his chest because that is the worst.

"Yeah, well, who asked you, huh?" He's not going to ask for Jim to come over and share his body heat. Instead, looking like a kicked, grumpy puppy, Bones holds up the space blanket.

"No one," he grins. "Since when has that ever stopped me?"

At that gesture, Jim plops down nice and close to Bones, obnoxiously pressing himself up against his side. He has a legit excuse to cuddle, he's going to fucking take it.

Good point. The answer was never, though, Bones isn't about to agree in any way, shape or form. Besides, he's a little more focused on the way Jim's cozying up against him, it's the only thing he can focus on really and Bones, he...well...he likes it. Not going to admit to that either.

"This is freakin' unbelievable." But he tries and squeezes closer without being aware of it - the heated rocks are starting to work, but the press of another body...

"Come on, Bones. It could be worse." They're already practically plastered up against each other, but Jim's a greedy little bastard. He wants even more and loops one of his arms through Bones'. That was good enough. For now."You could be stuck with Spock."
